Requirements to stay at Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern West Virginia

A caring and comforting place to call home.

Families traveling far from home call Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern West Virginia “home” while their children receive medical care at an area hospital. We work closely with our hospital partners to provide families with a comfortable and caring place to stay for as long as they need us.

How Do I Request a Room?

Eligibility

The patient must be 21 years old or younger and receiving medical treatment at an area hospital or appointment at an area physician's office. Families must live at least 25 miles from Charleston.

Requesting a Room

Family members must obtain a referral from a social worker at an area hospital or physician's office.

Background Check

Guests 18 years old or older must individually complete a background check authorization form (either online or by paper) and have photo identification at check-in.

Room Confirmation

Once all referral paperwork is received from the referring hospital or physician's office and all background checks are processed, a staff member will contact you to conduct a wellness prescreening.

Only parents, guardians, and family members with visitation privileges at the hospital can stay.

Guest families can have visitors daily from 12 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Frequently Asked Questions

Families must have a patient 21 years old or younger admitted or have a scheduled procedure at an area hospital. Families must live at least 25 miles from Charleston, WV to qualify to stay. Only 4 family members can stay in a room at one time. Only one room can be requested per family.

  • Family members must obtain a referral from a social worker at an area hospital. Only parents/guardians/family members with visitation privileges at the hospital are permitted to stay.
  • Anyone 18 years old or older must have a valid state or federal photo ID and complete a background check upon check-in. Forms may be requested from your social worker or completed online.

Visitors are permitted daily from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Visiting hours at the House are from 12 p.m.-8 p.m. daily. 
  • A guest must be present to sign all visitors in.
  • Visitors will be required to wear a visitor lanyard during their visit and must sign out when leaving the building. 
Families have access to the following during their stay:
  • Fully-stocked communal kitchen with personal locker/food storage area
  • Meals provided by corporate and community organizations
  • Laundry room with laundry supplies
  • Communal living room
  • Playroom
  • Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc.)
  • Adult, children’s and baby clothing
  • Baby necessities (diapers, wipes, books, toys, etc.)

CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital provides a courtesy shuttle that can transport families to and from the hospital. The shuttle operates on an as-needed basis daily. A staff member will provide you with the information to contact the shuttle service when you check in.

There is no cost to stay with us. You are welcome to make a donation to help pay for your stay, but because of the generosity of our RMHC supporters, our families are not required to pay for their stay.
