Volunteers make our House a home

Building a community of support

Become a part of a community that cares for families with critically ill or injured children. By becoming a volunteer, you help families have more time to care for their children and less time worrying about cleaning or what their next meal will be.

Volunteer FAQs

General Volunteers

Who can volunteer?

Volunteer eligibility varies by role. Each opportunity listing will clearly note requirements.

  • Most opportunities are open to adults 18 and older. Some roles may allow minors with a parent/guardian present, while others may allow teens 16+.
  • Some roles require a background check. If needed, you will receive instructions through the portal and via email.
  • We do not accept volunteers who are fulfilling court-ordered community service hours.

Some roles are one-time, while others prefer a recurring commitment. Please review the opportunity description for specific expectations.

We welcome groups to participate in our Meal Program and for special projects throughout the year. If you’re organizing a group, review the Team Leader Guide to assist with managing your team!

Some volunteer roles require orientation before or during your first shift.

Meals that Heal Volunteers

8:00 AM is the only time slot available. Do I have to prepare breakfast?

No, you can come anytime during the day and cook breakfast, lunch, or dinner for our families! The 8:00 a.m. timeslot reserves your group’s spot on our meal calendar.

Please refer to the opportunity description on the volunteer portal and our Meals that Heal Guidelines when considering or preparing for this opportunity.

We recommend calling us at (304) 346-0279 the day prior to your scheduled date to get an estimate of how many guests are staying at the House.

Make a Difference for Families & Children

Parents don’t know when their children will need medical help. But they should know they can always access the care they need. And with your help, we can support them all throughout their journey.
