Since 1985, we have given thousands of families a home-away-from-home close to their child’s hospital bed. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern West Virginia has been a place of hope and healing while children receive medical care far from home.

Our History

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern West Virginia opened in November of 1985 when a 10 guest room expansion was built and connected to an old residential home. The new facility was met with a great deal of excitement from the local community and was the first Ronald McDonald House in the state of West Virginia.

For 30 years, our home at 302 30th Street, served more than 8,000 families.

In 1998, in conjunction with Charleston Area Medical Center, the Ronald McDonald House Family Room opened on the 4th floor at CAMC’s Women & Children’s Hospital. At the time, it was only the 3rd RMHC Family Room to open in the country.

In 2014, the Building Love Bridging Hearts campaign was launched, with a goal of raising $3.5 million to build a new Ronald McDonald House next to the Women & Children’s Hospital campus. In less than two years, the campaign goal was reached, and construction on a new House began in 2015.

On November 1, 2016, RMHC of Southern West Virginia moved into their new, 14 guest room, 20,000 square foot home, located just steps from CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room was remodeled in 2022, allowing a more comforting and warm environment within CAMC Women and Children's Hospital.
