Giving the comforts of home since 1985
Each year, more than 300 families will call our house, “home.” RMHC of Southern West Virginia is proud to have been the first Ronald McDonald House opened in West Virginia.
30 Years at 302 30th St.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern West Virginia opened in November of 1985 when a 10 guest room expansion was built and connected to an old residential home. The new facility was met with a great deal of excitement from the local community and was the first Ronald McDonald House in the state of West Virginia. For 30 years, our home at 302 30th Street, served more than 8,000 families.
RMH Family Room
In 1998, in conjunction with Charleston Area Medical Center, the Ronald McDonald House Family Room opened on the 4th floor at CAMC’s Women & Children’s Hospital. At the time, it was only the 3rd RMHC Family Room to open in the country. Located just steps away from a pediatric intensive care unit, the Family Room offers a place to rest and regroup right at the hospital, just moments away from their sick child.
Making More Room
In 2014, the Building Love Bridging Hearts campaign was launched, with a goal of raising $3.5 million to build a new Ronald McDonald House next to the Women & Children’s Hospital campus. In less than two years, the campaign goal was reached, and construction on a new House began in 2015. On November 1, 2016, RMHC of Southern West Virginia moved into their new, 14 guest room, 20,000 square foot home, located just steps from CAMC Women and Children’s Hospital.
